I don't use a sock or anything. The filter is directly above the skid plate and small chance water is going to splash directly on it. No, this won't work if you don't have efans...just trying to show an option.

Anyway, if it is raining and there are puddles, I can't go fast anyway. I have severe traction issues even when the roads are dry.

My main point in posting was to show that you don't have to spend $250+ on an aftermarket kit. Mine cost about $75. You can take my exact setup and rotate it to the stock location.

i think it's a great idea just for the record. but my first thought was puddle splashes as well. it's pretty much what i have been thinking of doing, just going throught the stock location and putting on a "splash box" of sorts.

I hit the reply instead of the Quote button, this is in response to jcbst12's suggestion of the AirRaid intake tube and a K&N filter.

So do you have an AirRaid intake tube? In looking at the pics on thier respective websites, the AirRaid intake tube looks like it flattens out to go over the top of the radiator shroud just like the stock tube. The K&N looks like it maintains it's round shape the whole length, but it's hard to tell. If this is the case it would seem to me that the K&N would flow better than the flattened out AirRaid. I'm not knocking AirRaid, I had on one my 2K Durango and loved it, I just wondered about this particular application.

There is a thin flap that runs up the length of the side of the radiator tank as well as a thicker piece of flat plastic in back of the headlight assembly and in front of the air box. If you have opened up the front of the air box wouldn't removing these flaps let more in straight through the front end of the vehicle? As close as the filter is to the front you'd probably need a water sock like some of you mentioned but this might give you more air. I did a similar thing on my 2K Durango when I put an AirRaid in it, but the D had the filter further back, on the fender well, so I never worried about too much water coming in the front and getting to it. Where the Chevy (the D was totalled and replaced with a 2K Tahoe 5.3) filter is that close to the front the water might be an issue.

yes, the airaid tube does flatten out over the radiator, which makes it able to clear a tbs much easier than a k&n... the main advantage is the lack of the air silencer that the stock tube has

So if I wasn't installing a TBS too then the K&N tube would work as well as the Airaid?

withac - I se you are looking at your options, but plan on the TBS, it is so worth the money.

I really appreciate everyone's feedback even if I didn't start this thread. Is the TBS as big of a deal if you go with the K&N as opposed to the Airaid? I'm leaning toward the K&N.

I don't think it matters alot between the two intakes, just make sure it is plastic not metal.
