Custom Tuners

RE: Custom Tuners
That's gonna be hard to get cleared up as everyone is biased. Personally I have had good luck with Wheatley as has Huntforgame, but I am sure Yankee will disagree and say Nelson is the only way to go. Others will also give different companies. I would pick one with a decent price, lots of experience, and local to you that can do the tune on a dyno with your truck. Also with them being local you can get adjustment easily. I didn't have that option here as there are no decent local tuners.

RE: Custom Tuners
Just to show I'm not being biased - I don't even use Nelson anymore, I use a guy that is more local to me. I can't drive 5 hours every time I need my tune adjusted, otherwise I would still be using Allen.
Your best bet is usually to find someone local and do a live tune. If you can't do that, the only mail order tuner I would go with is Nelson.
He had issues in the past with communication, but that's cleared up now since he has hired on new help. He owns LS1truck.com and one of his helpers is online there a lot to answer questions quickly.

RE: Custom Tuners
If gas mileage is your main goal and your not thrashing it, I'd just recommend a handheld programmer cause some of them have "fuel economy" settings such as the Diablo Predator that are geared more towards maximizing mpg. Plus with a programmer you can set the tune to run whichever octane you prefer, where as with a custom ECU tune you have to run the specified octane level it's tuned for. So if the country keeps going like it is and there is a sudden "problem" finding gas or atleast the octane rating you need, you can simply adjust your tune to suit whatever gas you happen to find.
Also, if you decide it was a lousy investment, you can always resell it. You can't resell a custom ECU tune if you don't like it.

RE: Custom Tuners
I like the Predator cause I like to screw with stuff all the time. If you decide you need a custom tune you can either go to a shop that has Predator custom tuning and save it to your Predator, or have a shop do it over the internet and email it to you. If you want something adjusted they usually make the fix for free an email you a new one. (Going to a shop is better though). Plus you can modify or remove the tune in 5-10 minutes without screwing with removing or replacing the computer. Going to a shop with a Predator and having them dyno tune it would be your best bet over a custome tune. Otherwise a custome tune such as Wheatly or Nelson would be more effective.
