Default cutting inner fenderwell

This is probably a stupid question since I think I know the answer. I just want to know if anyone has done it and noticed any improvement. I have the volant CAI which has basically the whole left side of the box to the fender open, but there are only some smaller holes from the stock unit open in the fenderwell. Has anyone cut the excess metal out and if so did you notice any difference? It seems like you would as this should thoretically improve flow. But it could still be enough since the filter is just past that and it slows airflow some. I just don't like making unreversable changes, and am not ready to cut on this truck if is for nothing (I still owe too much).

I do not know how this intake compares personally, but I believe they are all about the same. The think I like about the volant is it is completely sealed, not depending on the hood for a seal. As far as the ram air scoop, it is not recommended if you will be submerging the front of the truck in water or mud as it will suck it in. I am thinking about doing it anyway and making a cover for the end when I plan to go 4-wheeling. It is supposed to help alot on the highway. I love this intake though. I installed the intake as well as headers at the same time, so I don't have any facts as to the power gains. But the combo did make a big difference in throttle response and performance, especially midrange. I expect to get more lowend when I get the reprogram and get rid of the torque managment. I have some pics on the post named "christmas presant" on page nine. It also looks great. I am also getting much better fuel milage.
