Descreening MAF

RE: Descreening MAF
I agree with HemiKiller. As for your oil change. If you used a heavier weight oil, it would have affected power and milage, but not that much. As for the maf. Pull it and clean it. I use alcohol on a cotton swab or electronic cleaner in an spray can. If you are running a K&N or other oil saturated element, you want to do this once and awhile anyways. How is your throttle body? If it has become dirty inside it will affect things. IAC valve should be cleaned too. How many miles on it. it may be time for plugs.
Just some ideas to look at.

RE: Descreening MAF
I have not changed anything else and I do not know what weight oil was used, but it was changed at a chevy dealership so I assume it is the same as always. I have 50k on the odometer. It just seemed weird to have that drastic of a change all of a sudden. I have not noticed much of a power difference (any at all may be in my head) as I would expect with drastic decrease in fuel economy. I will clean the sensor today and see if it helps.

RE: Descreening MAF
cleaned the sensor and vacuumed off the filter ( I also ordered a cleaning kit for the filter). Milage is a little better @15.4, but no where near the 21-22 I was getting. It got as low as 12. The throttle body is very dirty so I am going to clean it next, run some fuel system cleaner through, then move on to the fuel filter. The only other thing that has changed is the pollen is really bad here now and the temp is up to mid 80s, so maybe that is clogging the filter more and the temp is affecting as well. Just weird.

RE: Descreening MAF
My MAF sensor took 150,000 miles to get dirty so it shouldn't be a drastic drop in mileage. If you do decide to descreen it, it's the perfect time to clean it and it will make more differnce than the actual screen removal will.
Good luck!

Yeah it has been descreened for a long time. Still low milage, but getting a little better. I think I may have gotten a bad tank of gas and it gummed stuff up. Truck has seemed faster the last 2 days, but that is just a guess, no recordable proof.

RE: Descreening MAF
If your oil change was "professionally" done (you didn't do it yourself), I'd check around the engine for disconnected electrical or vaccuum lines, etc.. That's a pretty dramatic drop in mileage from an oil change, unless you now have 90 wt gear oil in your engine.
More than likely, something got "accidentally" bumped off during the change.

My truck has 74,000 miles on it and I had to clean my sensor. I think it was caused by the oil from my K&N filter, though, notdirt or anything. I've had the K&N for 45,000 miles.
