Question eliminateing low fuel light in message center

Hi all, my fuel sending unit is no good on my 2002 silverado 2500 HD. The fuel pump works fine and I'm good using the odometer to fuel up but the message center reads low fuel. The fuel gauge reads empty. Is there a way to disconnect the sending unit?? Will it work to unplug it off the top of the fuel pump? Or cut a wire or two? Will the pump still work? No other messages come through while the low fuel light is on in the message center. Thanks for any suggestions.

replace the fuel pump module assembly. Are all your other gauges working correctly?

yes all gauges working. I am sure it is the module assembly. It was broken when I installed the pump. I had to install the pump anyway because I am in a rural area. The broken part was the plastic part that the float arm snaps into. I did my best to strap it on with zip ties but it did not hold for very long.
