My fastest car I have owned and still own today a 1968 Chevelle with a 327 corvette package special ordered. 178 mph in a 55. Caught by helicopter on I-75 in picwa, ohio.
I only stopped because it landed in the road and I just was able to stop in time.I was immediately arrested. But since I was being sent overseas for a tour of duty being in the military I was released. I have one other ticket like 165 in a 45 which was in the sticks on a military base, caught by helicopter also. This was in the early 70's. I pulled the engine out so my sons would not steal my car and kill thereselves. I am not proud of my poor behavior but back in those days traffic was hardly at all. I thought I was never coming home anyways. I have like 37,000 actual miles on it.
