Wait like 10 to 20 years. We will only be able to get bio-diesel trucks that get like 50 mpg or better, or hybrid trucks that run primarily on eletric motors. That wouldn't be too bad tho considering they now have eletric motors that can scoot a truck down the 1/4 mile in no time flat while pulling a house. It just sucks that gas will be like 5-7 bucks a gallon by then and forget about cool sounding exhaust sytems on V8s. LOL Can you imagine buying a circuit board insted of an exhaust or something to give your truck/car more hp!

 

That will kill me. I will be broke trying to fill up my truck so that I can go to the track and watch electric race cars ZOOM past me. Like I said, hell in a hand bag.

i dont konw, the prospect of my truck with a diesel engine in it kinda excites me... i always said my next truck would be a diesel, now i may not have to get a 2500 to get one!

 

I agree. I want a diesel for my next truck too. Im just worried that they will limit the hell out of performance mods in the name of emission control.

 

i live in the boonies in tn... im not too concerned lol... i can see how people would be worried about that though, i can't imagine actually having to check to see whether performance mods would be legal... mind boggling

 

Yeh but there will be performance programmers out there that you will be able to get the gains that you want and then return to stock before a smog check. I am with you guys I cannot wait to see what the diesel 1500Hd will be like, and the price. I was not looking forward to paying 50K for my next truck. If they can get these 1500HD diesels for around 40K I would be happier that a two peckered billy goat!

 

Ok, class A, you mean class 8 trucks. The new laws require EGR on all 07 and newer diesel engines. I work for a Detroit Diesel Distributor and Detroit along with Mercedes Benz has had the EGR for a few years now. Along with EGR, a Diesel Particulate Filter is now mandatory too. This works much like a Catalytic Converter. Some of the techs I work with have been to school on these, and say they show a video of a man in a long white sleeved shirt putting his arm down a tailpipe of a running truck, and pulls it out and it is still white. So, if you use the color of smoke to diagnose problems, thats done now. Also, dont run anything but ULSF diesel in 07 and up trucks, or it will ruin your DPF, which costs big bucks. The mileage on a class 8 truck is between 4-6 mpg. That was pre 07. The 07 and up are expecting 1-3% less economy due to this new technology. If you ever get the chance, take a look inside the intake manifold of an EGR diesel. I wouldn't want that crap going through my engine.

 

I was talking about Big rig trucks (18 wheelers). I understand the DPF and the regeneration cycles that they run. That is all for emmitions and has little effect on fuel milage gains, as you said that will hurt fuel milage.
