Fuel Mileage
Hola
I have a few questions I hope somone can help me answer or give some insight. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado with the 6.0 it has 4.10s for gears 4x4, and I use this truck in a home business. The truck often goes 200 to 300 miles two or three times a week. For half that distance it packs around 2000 lbs mostly up hill. I average 15mpg if I dont get greedy on the pedal going out. Around 17 to 18 mpg coming back unloaded down hill with 265/75 tires on and that seems to have helped on the mileage, would 285/75 help more?
From the other threads Ive got a list of mods I would like to put on my truck just basic things but I wondered if they would really help the fuel mileage. Examples would be a volant cai with the ram air attachment an after market jet maf sensor, and a cat back exhaust. I was also wondering about the the TBS from BBK they have a 80mm and a 85mm? is the 85 to big? After I got all this then I would get a custom tune from black bear performance.
I guess my question is from a business point of view (apart from the side questions) is this stuff worth getting for a truck that puts on alot of miles every week?.......

I think if you are getting that kind of mileage already I would be extremely happy with your current set-up. I wouldn't touch it. My last 2001 w/6.0 & 4.10's 4X4 got 14 tops - unloaded downhill downwind etc etc. It usually stayed around 12 mpg.

I have had the truck three years now and just broke 105000 miles on it. The truck has been so good my father in law even bought one just like it but like you said he only get like 12 out of it loaded. So I really dont know how to explain my good fortune I was just wondering if I could make it better. Also the fuel pump on the truck is pretty loud but its been like that since I bought it I kinda wonder if its trying to die.

That's fantastic fuel economy... yeah I dont' know why some people are just hit or miss with these motors. I'm getting 12 tops out of my 350 3.73 setup. 13 highway.
I would be a little suspicious of your fuel pump though. Mine was extremely loud for awhile there and then... it died. my new one is still noticable, but not nearly as loud

If your using it for a business (like I use mine for) I would leave it alone. I wanted another gas guzzling v8 truck, but I decided to go with a more fuel efficient model since there isn't a such thing as a full sized truck that gets good gas mileage, especially when pulling a trailer. You might have some luck with a hypertech programmer like I did on mine. I ended up not molesting my truck with alot of modifications,so when I want to have fun, I just play with my jeep and get 8-10 mpg.
