99% chance its the fuel sender in the tank....

WARNING..do not put in a cheap pump...get a Delco or leave it alone...these aftermarket pumps are JUNK!

I'd say jump on it... Unless there are better conditions stated in your purchase agreement...

just curious, is there a way to calibrate the float, or is it one of those replace only type parts?

What happens to these fuel gauges is this....the float moves some brushes on a "card"...that card gets corroded from fuel additives that gas company's dump in to stretch the gas farther.

Yes,600 bucks is the going rate to put a gm pump in.....a Pep-boys pump runs about 250 for just the pump, and they're ****.

The fuel gauge in my 2000 also sucks from a reliability standpoint. This is especially true when the tank is full. It will go from full to empty to full to empty and all points in between for the first 50 miles on any new tank of gas.

$600 is a too much jack to fix this for me. I drive by the mileage odometer. When it gets around 300, I'm getting gas.
