Default Gmc truck ,no power??

Im here to see if i can get any help. Im just trying to help out my dad since he nows nothing about computer and internet. its my dads 94 gmc sierra truck v8 . it has no power. it will start ok but when its on drive its really slow . the fastes it goes is 10-15 mph. he already checked distributer cap, rotor, spark plugs, timing(he might not have checked it right).I installed a new catlatic converter. the truck has a flowmaster that was installed about 4 yeasr ago. the injectors seem to be spraying ok. my dad and i are ok when it comes to mechanic but this is way beyond our minds. HELP PLEASE!! could it possibly be the sensor from the tranny?

How dose it act when in park or neutral like when you rev it is there a check engine light? Is just not shifting into any gear but 1st? Have you tried to shift it manually?
