Default Got a question for you guys

So the long story short is my grandfather (who i live with and is an incredibly skilled mechanic) has a 96 chevy silverado 1500, with what i think is the NV3500 manual. He wants an automatic, my question is would a 4l60E fit and bolt right in, is there a computer already in place to control it? if not can an older tranny be swapped in, say 700r4 or otherwise. Thanks in advance guys. A.

If you can find a 4L60E around that year model. They go back as far as 95 I believe. Newer will require programming of the computer. So from 95 to 99 should be good.

So if we go to a junkyard tomorow and find a 96 with a 4l60e its just old one out new one in? Are there hookups under there already just plug and go?

Yes. The wire harness is on the passenger side of the tranny is what you wanna make match up. Although the harnesses can be changed out easily. But everything else is the same. In fact the 4L60E's are the same as 700R4's, except 4L60E's use electric solenoids.
