Default Has anyone attempted a cam or lifter upgrade on a 5.3l w/AFM.?

I have an '07 GMC Sierra SLT w/5.3l & AFM... Has anyone attempted a cam or lifter upgrade.? Are we truly limited to this sluggish, barely torqn' engine.? I had the '04 with the same engine less AFM and it would smoke my '07..(if I raced it) If I would have known better I would have stayed with the Classic to avoid the AFM.
I am just looking for a yes or no...and maybe how you did it..

I put a stock LS1 cam in my 2001 5.3 and noticed a big difference. That with a Tune it came out to an extra 40 hp.

Default AFM-Active Fuel Management

Your '01 up to the '05 and maybe '06 would probably be an easy swap.. I am looking for someone who knows for sure whether or not you can swap the cam and or lifters on a vehicle with AFM. I did get this response from CompCams. But are they saying "NO".? I wonder if this is the same with Flex-Fuel..? Buggy is the person at CompCams...

"You would have to deactivate the displacement on demand in order to change
the camshaft we do not offer anything that will work for that."

Thanks

Well I did one in my buddy's 06 but he didnt have the cylinder deactivation. That is a tricky one. The LS1 cam gives it more lift and duration but not enough to put stronger springs. So im thinkin you are wanting pretty hot??

Default Not a racer, just a bit more torque and horse

I would probably be happy with the 40 horse and more torque just as you mentioned earlier. The '07 Crew is much heavier than my '04 extended cab I had , at least it feels that way. I am just looking for someone that has swapped a cam or lifters with AFM.. I can tell you if I knew this in advance I would not have bought the vehicle with this engine. We even have the problems with the exhaust on the vehicle with AFM...sounds like crap in 4 banger mode.... Also, it will drop to 4 cylinder about 40 mph and you can feel the 4 slugs pulling at the V8 weighted truck...
