Question Heater/blower shorting out

2000 chevy truck...

Seems like the hvac will work fine and then not work at all, it just dies on me. Bad ground maybe?

let me know your thoughts or if this is a common issue.

thanks!

Give us a little more information. Does the blower continue to blow, but just warm? Does everything including the blower quit? When does it quit - is it random or does it run for about the same time and then stop?

No, when it works it works fine, blows hot or ice cold.

But it will just stop (or not start), like the blower won't respond sometimes and then randomly will kick on, assuming that i leave the **** on a fan speed when it doesn't respond

For example:
Today i went out, started the truck and attempted to put the heater on. Turned the **** to all the fan speeds - Nada.
Then about 10 minutes into my drive to work, (after i had left it on fan speed 3) it randomly kicked on and was fine for the remainder of the trip. I even messed with it once it was on, seeing if i could turn it on and off and flipping through speeds to see if it would die, and it didn't.

Example 2:
Yesterday i was driving and it was working fine, and then for no reason, it was not blowing at all, even though i never touched the fan speed ****.

In all cases the slight trickle of air that comes through when you have it set to fan speed zero but haven't pressed the reciruclate button still comes though but the blower is off. (dont know if that eliminates anything but i figured i'd mention it.)

to specifically answer the questions,
-the air temp isn't affected so far as i can tell, blows hot or ice cold.
-I dont think anything but hte blower quits
-It's only started last week, so i havent recognized a patern yet, but I'm going to lean towards random, since its cut out on me in the middle of trips as well as not worked from start up.

Thanks again
-C

Check the ground for the blower motor. Sounds like just a blower issue. If the ground is ok I would pull the fan and clean it up with some electrical contact cleaner. Worst case will probably be a new fan motor.
