Question for Argon
When removing the torque converter to flywheel bolts on the 99 silverado 5.3/4l60e is there a proper way, I have trouble holding the flywheel in place to pull against it, also the bolts are so incredibly tight i snapped to allen head sockets. Any ideas? How do they get er done in the real arena? Thanks ahead for the advice, bro.

I'm pretty sure your supposed to use air tools unless you have someone who can hold the crankshaft bolt with a big wrench to keep the engine from turning. But I would use an impact wrench.

does the flywheel have large holes in it. when i did mine i had to jam a rod in it to hold the flywheel in place so i could get enough torque on the bolts an whalla they came loose.

take the little tin cover out of the bottom..its about as big around as a moon pie....have a helper hold the flywheel with a small prybar.

older 99's have an allen hole only (6mm,I think)...about 2000,they went to a 15mm shouldered bolt,still with the allen hole.

I use a breakover bar with a snap-on allen 6mm bit...its a pia,but I get em....parts has replacement bolts,that are shouldered for a 15 socket...MUCH easier

Thanks man, looks like ill have to go to the tool store to gte oneseeing as i broke the last two, but ill give her a go, and definitely replace with a shouldered bolt, just curious, how much does a ring gear go for on one of these pickups, in case i have to fire up the torch?

****,I dunno..its a "flex-plate",to get technical...I bet its well over a 100 bucks...a used one should be plentiful though..if you have an indy trans shop nearby,they may sell ya one for just a few bucks

when i put in my converter in my 87 it was one of the easier things to take off. i just used a socket and a breaker bar

Well i got pissed and torched em, looks like im in the market for a flex plate...
