hid headlights. plz help me
hey every one.
im struggling to understand h i d lights
i set off to buy some for my new 09 crew cab
because i want my truck to be diffrent and not have the
orangish like everyone else. and i really like pure white
i hadn't expected it to be this complicated.
not long ago i stumbled across article/videos saying
aftermarket h i d conversion kits are illegal because
the factory headlights werent made to house them
and the beams shoot all over the place screwing other
drivers up..
are stock 2009 silverado headlights h i d compatible?
i read elsewhere that the housing has to say d2r or somthing,
where do i look to find this?
is there a aftermarket headlight im suposed to get that legaly houses
h i d's?
either way
how do i go about getting them installed once ive bout them?

They will work with the housings you have. But you will notice they are brighter and spread wide. You dont even need high beams when using these. But later on you can get aftermarket lens' that have the projector lens'. Emits the light much better for H.I.D. lights. But no worries my friend, I have them 2 and never had problems except a few passer by's flashing thinkin I have my high beams on.

Its better for the lense to be designed for HID, yes, but thats just to make a better pattern and not have high concentrations of light in certain areas of the beam. It really has nothing to do with blinding other drivers because all headlamps have a design that prevents light from bleeding too high no matter how strong the light output is.
The maximum output allowed by law is 1250 lumens and the output of HIDs are 3500-4500 lumens depending on the color temperature.
D2R is a bulb type for stock GM HID fit-ups such as the 2000-2002 GMC Envoy. That number will not apply to you. The bulb you would order, I'm fairly certain, would be a 9006. Whatever comes in it stock.
You will need to disable the DRLs if it uses a split-voltage system. A good way to check this is to measure the voltage at the bulb plug while the DRLs are on. If it reads 11v-14.9v, you should be fine. Thats a normal range for non-split voltage systems. If the voltage is between 5v-7v, its a split voltage system and the DRLs will have to be disabled.
Installing them will be self-explanatory once you get the system. Most of them come with a wiring diagram, but I'll give you a quick rundown on how to do it without the optional relay kit.
-Mount the ballast on a non-metal surface near the headlight assembly.
-There should be a harness that goes from the headlight plug to the ballast. Hook that up. Sometimes the input of the ballast can be hooked up backward, so if you do all this and they don't work, just flip the plug and put it back in.
-Take the bulbs out of the casings and carefully insert them into the assembly. You may have to change out the o-ring seal with the one around the existing bulbs because most of the time the o-ring on it will be too fat..
-You should have a cable leading from the ballast with two single-wire male and female plug on the end of it. Plug those into the leads on the bulb.
You're done. Repeat the process for the other side.
