Default I had an Ephiphany

I realized earlier today when i asked myself a question "Why the hell do i want a dodge ram?"

I was wondering why i would leave a brand of trucks that never gave me a problem always reliable and drove nice. Im getting a sierra or another silverado when one comes up in my price range

LOL - At least you realized it before taking the plunge. I would rather drive (and I do) an older GM truck than buy a newer truck that I am not confident in. Find a few year older truck that is in good shape. I am in the motorcycle business, but frequent car dealer auctions looking for motorcycles that are traded in. I can buy trucks at these auctions as my license cover both. If you need help locating something let me know. I am not sure where you live, but if I can be of assistance just say the word.

well im over in the nice outskirts of philadephia meaning i can leave my truck unlocked and not worry lol

but right now im looking at a 2001 silverado same thing as mine just newer so alot of the parts can just swap over and when i get it im going to strip my truck down sell everything exept my engine and trans and eventually find another silverado with a blown tranny or engine for cheap and swap it so i can take 2 trucks make one and sell it or keep it and turn it into a funtruck or a mudder

I have a '94 Ford Club wagon E150 with a 5.8L with 178,000+ miles on it, 2000 Silverado 1500 with a 4.8L with 223,000, a 2007 Ram 2500 Diesel with 200,000+ miles, a 2008 GMC 1500 Sierra Crew Cab with a 5.3 and 58,000 miles on it, and a 2010 Ram 3500 Diesel crew cab with 48,000 miles on it, and except for some minor BS issues, I haven't had a lick of trouble from any of them.

I accredit that to religiously meticulous preventive maintenance, especially and primarily oil changes. I've used Mobil One in the gas trucks, and either Royal Purple or Amsoil in the diesels since the first oil change in each truck.

As I see it, reliability has more to do with the way you take care of your truck than it's brand.

...for the record, this past Friday I looked at a Sierra 3500 Diesel/Allison automatic, crew cab, SLT. To possibly replace the 2000 Silverado. I'm also looking at a Ford F350 Diesel Crew Cab.
That said, the Cummins is difficult to beat when it comes to Diesel Pickups.

I agree totally, but the motor in the truck he was considering (4.7 Dodge) is one of those that seem to have a design flaw from the factory. Not to say that if certain oil is used and changed way more often than recommended it might not last a long time, but there are way to many reported failures. Each manufacturer has had motors in the past with design flaws. I, in no way was trying to bash Dodge or any manufacturer. Ford has had some recent diesel issues after a long running top notch 7.3 which arguably is considered one of the top diesel motors of all time. GM has had many in their passenger cars (3.1, 4100, etc.) that are just plain crap IMO. I also don't have much good to say about pre-Duramax GM diesels, but some seem to like them. As we know all motors have their weak links, it's just the ones that have major weak links that really get the bad rap.

Re: the 4.7L Dodge engine, I agree, it's definitely not what it could, or should be. If you buy a gas engine Dodge, you need to get the Hemi. Again, don't cheap out on the engine's PM's either. The Hemi is a pretty good engine. I have a friend who has 2 of them, Both are 1500's, as I recall one is a 2009 and his new one is a 2011. He can make 390HP and still pull 22 mpg with those trucks. That's pretty impressive.

Re: the 3.1, 4100, 3800, etc. I'm not a V6 fan, either.

RE: Ford diesels: I'm not too thrilled with the new Ford Diesels, but trucks are very roomy and comfortable. As you might be able to tell by my first post in this thread, we put a lot of miles on these truck. many times towing a decent sized load, too. Reliability is the #1 item for us. Over the years, I've found the Cummins diesels to be the most durable, and the least costly over it's operational life (lowest cost per mile). That's based on my own records. I honestly don't know if that agrees with published research. Don't really care, either. When I'm spending my money, I have to go with what has worked, historically for us.

I know the Duramax is an Izusu. The throws Up a flag for me, as I have had turbo issues and warped head issue with Izusu engines in the past. Had a couple of 16' box trucks on Izusu NPR cab and chassis. I was told by the manufacturers rep that I could expect to get a half million miles before a rebuild was necessary.
Both trucks received scheduled maintenance, and weren't driven very hard, either. All the work on the truck was done at the Izusu dealership.

One of the NPR lost a turbo at just over 60 thousand miles, and then again at about 200,000 miles. The other lost needed a head replacement at 45,000 miles, and at 195,000 the engine blew, because the new head was also warped, it lost a turbo at about 90,000 or as, too. That put a bad taste in my mouth for Izusu diesels.
Yes, I understand that the Duramax is a different engine than the NPR's used. I suppose it goes to my not being comfortable with the brand.

All joking a side, I'm sure we all here at Truck Forums don't discriminate on different models of trucks.
Each TF member has their reason on why they drive what they drive.
I drove a Dodge for 7 years. It didn't give me any reason why I should trade it in
Each manufacturer has their pit falls.
I figured, buying a truck can sometimes be like a lottery. No matter what model you buy.
It can be the most dependable truck you've ever owned or it can end up being a lemon.

i dont hate em i think they look like beast *** trucks i just dont want to take a risk because right now with tuition money is really short

i love all american trucks....i just like some more than others.

Like if i could have a dodge ram body and interior with an F250 chassis and a Chevy duramax and allison transmission that would be my perfect truck
