In my opinion, If you want to put together an awesome truck, you use a Dodge Mega Cab, with a GM 3500 Dually bed and tailgate. A Ford 450 chassis, a Cummins diesel, and a GM Allison transmission, with a Dana rear.

All three have positives and negatives, and, if it were possible to go to a dealership and select the parts and pieces you'd like to build your truck, your way, it's my opinion that only a very few blind loyalists would end up with a truck built by any one manufacturer.
The unabashed truth of the matter is that in today's market, it would be difficult to get a bad truck. All have problems at some time or another. Look at the list of stuff in the “Common Chevy and GMC issues” thread. I’m sure there is a similar list for Ford, Dodge, Toyota and Nissan. Although these things can be problems, for the most part they are merely issues that we, as owners either deal with, and move on, or live with, and move on.
I purchased my first new vehicle in 1968, and my first new truck in 1976 (though I’ve had trucks before that one). I’ve never been a brand loyalist, but I can understand the desire to believe that your choice is the best. I’ve always based my purchases on what I wanted in and from a vehicle, the job I needed it to do, and the best bank for the buck. Because of that I’ve owned a number of Chevies/GMC’s, Fords, and MoPars of all descriptions.
[I’ve only owned three imports, all were German. I had a 1969 VW Micro Bus, and a 1967 VW Beetle (both were among the most fun vehicles I’ve ever owned) and a 1974 MB 450SL (2 seater) which was probably the most expensive vehicle I ever owned as it was Almost $35,000.00 (in 1974 dollar), and over the three years that I owned it, it averaged 9 weeks a year at the MB dealership!!!! Absolutely the worse vehicle I ever owned, too.]
One thing I’ve learned is that the brand you prefer is the best brand because you believe it to be. We have a tendency to find fault with brands that are competitive with the brand we own or prefer, while at the same time either ignoring the same issues with our preferred brand.
Chevy guys bust Ford and Dodge guys about their trucks and when doing so, never mention the chronic issues Chevy and GMC’s have. Ford guys to the same with GM and MoPar, and MoPar guys do it to Form and GM heads.
The fact is, we make the different brands, “the best”.
Who makes the best gas V8, and why do you think so.
Who makes the best Diesel, and why?
The best truck auto trans, and why?
Best rear axle, why?
Chassis, body, bed, interior? Why?
Who makes the best overall pick up truck?
It would be interesting to post those questions on this board, and on boards for the other 4 full size pickup trucks. In my opinion, somewhere scattered across all 5 boards would be the definitive answer to building the most nearly perfect pick up truck.
Just my 2¢

Good post Razoo
Well said, I agree totally.
I hate to see the debate of the 5 above questions.
Some guys can take it VERY personally when one guys says his truck his better then your truck.
I'm 48 yr old and I like to think I'm open minded and can let most stuff role of my back, but when somebody says my truck (Year Make and Model) is crap, I can't help but retaliate.
Again, Awesome post above Razoo.
