Default I think I need a bigger hammer....

So I finnally get around to doing the brake on my truck and, I am having a little trouble getting through the 8 years of rust on the rears... With a little persuasion (sp) I broke the caliper mounting bolts and braket bolts free and removed the caliper but, the brake disc wont budge..

I tried beating the crap out of it with a hammer (I am not reusing it), realeased the parking brake, more beating with a bigger hammer, gave it a good shot of lube, put the lugs back on tight to maybe break it loose, then more hammer beating. still that damn thing is locked on there..

Anyone have any ideas that might help

A bigger hammer!! Try and heat upthe disc (with a torch or propane torch) and see if that will help with breaking the rust free and getting it to break loose.

The best thing to do is soak it with some PB Blaster!! That stuff rocks its the second best stuff out there. Trust me I use a half case a week between me and my guys working for me. The best stuff in my opinion is called something like Aracoil I only know one place to get it and it not at all cheap. Anyway you can get PB Blaster at Advanced Auto. Its magnetic and penetrates like nothing you could believe. I rely on it every day. Ive busted thew a lot of rust with it in old *** steel mills.

If all elsefails, get a bigger hammer! If you have cutting torches, then if you are not planning on keeping the discs or the drums, then just lightly cut them off until they break loose. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Well still no luck today but I am heading in the right direction. I went and spoke to a local guru who told me that its all because of the parking brake cutting groove into the hub of the disc so even though I had the brake realeased and the cables slacked off the shoes were still setting in the groove. Next week I will completely disconnect the parking brake and pry that biatch off...

I wish I coulda taken a picture of me with both feet on the leafsprings two hands on the rotor trying to rip this thing off today.... Kinda glad i couldnt cause I woulda busted my butt hard....

You should be able to tap the parking brake lever against the backing plate
