What is the big differnet in gas mileage between a 1500 z-71 and a 2500 4x4 with a diesel? And are all the 2500 between 2000 to 2008 about the same in how long they will last and gas mileage? And is it worth buying one for normal driving, hunting, fishing and towing every once in awhile or is it worth just keeping my 2005 1500 z-71. Which would last longer and be better for gas milage if i put some normal mods on it. Thanks

well if you try to get gas milage on a diesel it will not last long at all. Just being a smart ***. From what I have heard from alot of people, highway milage in a diesel is much greater, whether loaded or unloaded. I talked to one guy who drove to florida with an umloaded truck getting 22 mpg, and came back pulling a 12k trailer adn still got 21 on the highway. In town I think there is little difference. The disadvantage to diesel is when they break it is expensive, they are louder (which does not bother me), and more expensive.

Yeah well i have looked around and seen a few for around $25000and did not know if it would be worth trading mine in to get a diesel 2500 or if i should just stay with my 1500 z-71 and do mods to it?

If you find a good deal on a deisel then go for it. There was an engine change in 2007 that greatly increased power so I would look for a 07' or later. Are the trucks you are finding new? The prices I am seeing are around 28-29, but that is a crew cab 4x4, and pretty basic.

Yeah I know. I was looking at a new one when I bought this truck, but I got this one for 28k and well loaded plus tool box and spray on liner. The same for the 2500 diesel was 39k.

May be a little high, but depends on the details. What does this truck have as far as options?

My dad has a 2003 duramax. He absolutely loves it. He gets consistantly over 20 mpg for highway driving. He has even seen some 23's and 24's. Running around doing everyday work he'll get 18's or so. And pulling a trailer there isn't a huge drop and you can't even tell there is anything hooked up to you. His truck has right around 99000 on it and its still bone stock. He hasn't changed anything or has he had anything gone bad. I know people that have changed tires and they don't get anywhere close to that milage. I also know people that have put chips into them and they've gone throught injectors like crazy and even transmissions. Do you guys realize the power difference from our half ton gases to these? Smoke....this has the throw you back in the seat power your looking for. I drove his yesterday and couldn't believe the difference. There is a very steep hill I take to work and the truck didn't even notice it, it even upshifted on the hill. My truck would never even think of doing that
