I had some time today to do some last minute tinkering on the burban before we make our trip to Minnesota on saturday.........so I pulled the oil pump and dismanteled it and guess what I found.............A weak pressure valve!!!!!!! so $37.00 later and a little work I run a consistant 40 psi at idle and almost 60 psi going down the road. So I guess after 211000 miles the pressure valve just had enough....which would explain the oil pressure acting the way it did........thanks for everyones help

211K and still 40PSI at idle...Toyota who?!?!?!?! I always tell people that Toyota got there props for running forever b/c they were one of the earliest to come out with a 6 digit odometer. I am sure there are tons of early Chevy's out there with 300K-400K on them. Everyone just assumed that the clock had just turned over once. My father used to have a 1965 Chevy tow truck that had to have flipped the odometer 4 times. It only had about 10lbs of oil pressure, but ran like a new one. He didn't get rid of it until 1992 (well Hurricane Andrew got rid of it for him). It would probably still be running!
Nice find on the pressure valve...alot cheaper than a new motor huh?!?!?!?!
