Default Intake TBS question - please help

Hey Everyone,

I have been looking for an answer for this question for a few days now but I can't find one.

I just installed my K&N intake on my 05 sierra 5.3. Evidently you can't use a TBS without making modifications for my make and model. Is this true? I contacted K&N and they don't recommend using a TBS because of the modifications which will void the warranty (which I'm not worried about). Has anyone put a TBS on with a K&N intake? Do you need to do any modifications? Which TBS did you use? And finally, how important is using the stripping around the intake guard?

Thanks for your help!!

I am not sure about the K&N, but I have the volant and the tbs and no modification was needed. I assume the K&N is pretty close in design. You should be fine especially with all the room the 05' has with the electric fans. I have the transdapt. And finally, I am not sure what you are talking about with the "striping around the itake guard".

Pweiss, its a gasket that goes around the heat shield I guess for added protection for when you close the hood to fill the space, anyways I have one too and to install the gasket cut it at the corners of the shield so it will bend (otherwise it wont) With a little patience and work you can get it to fit

I have the 6.0 and had to actually cut the intake tube when i put the tbs. I was going to cut the shroud but then measured a lil more and saw that with that extra inch or so wit the tbs the tube would hit the fan. I cut the tube and works fine.

Does anyone know if the 05 has more room between the fan than the 04? I don't want to cut the tube if i don't have to.

Is having the spacer even worth it?

How long did it take to install with the tube modifications? Did you use a simple hack saw?

So, what TBS is the best with my truck (00 5.3) with a K&N 77 intake. I would rather not trim the intake or fan shroud but will I guess if need be. Anyways, most everyone has been good with the trans dapt so I was looking at those. Any input from same year and engine that have done would be awesome. Thanks
