Default Knock sensor

My check engine light is on. Autozone read the codes and said it is knock sensor and o2 sensor. Truck has 193,000 miles and it is 5.3L. I just bought the truck and the dealer is replacing o2 sensor today they said it is the problem. This is not Chevy dealer it is a smaller car lot. My question is if it turns out to be a knock sensor would it hurt the engine driving it like that?

I don't think so but then I never had a knock sensor go bad. It would seem to me that you would hear the pinging if there was something very wrong. I would not let it go for too long if you still have a knock sensor code after the o2 sensor is replaced.

Until you get it replaced, you will have sluggish power and poor gas mileage, its ok to run it like that for a while if you have to. Without the knck sensor working the computer will retard the timing, meaning loss of power.

Thanks for the info. They had to take my truck to a muffler shop because they couldn't change the sensor. It is suppose to be ready today. I will see if the code for knock sensor is gone, they are still saying knock sensor is ok that o2 sensor is problem. I hope that is the case. I will give an update when I get my truck back.

I can almost guarantee it will come back on. The knock sensors collect moisture around them and will rust causing no readings. When they are redone you have to use alot of RTV Silicone to make sure they dont go bad again.

Well the knock sensor code PO332 came back yesterday. Scanner at AutoZone said bank 2. I don't know which one that is so I may just replace them both while I'm in there.

Do them both and you will most likely need the harness as well.

As a few have stated, Knock sensors can go bad. You should not drive too long with this condition as that may end up clogging up the O2 sensors again.

You can find the knock sensors listed here
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor - 1999 - 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 - TheAutoPartsShop

The connectors are listed here
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ignition Knock (Detonation) Sensor Connector - 1999 - 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 - TheAutoPartsShop

You did not post a year, so you will need to select that.
