Default leaking rear axle seals

Have Haynes manual, read numerous posts about pulling axles to get to seals but I cannot reach the "C" clip it is waay recessed in the little area.. I've tried pushing the axle in,out, and manunipulating the clip but it is just too recessed in the end of the axle shaft to pull with any type of tool I could ever imagine! . I've also removed the locking pin hoping to get more access to no avail. The manual does not show a truck pictured as 4WD with lockking rear diff so I'm at a loss how to do this. Can anyone point mt to pictures step by step to get to this "C" clip? In meantime the truck is stuck up on jackstands...at least I get to ride my bike around but hopefully not for too long. Any guidance appreciated
