Default thinking about buying a G80 locking differential for my 07 colorado

i have done a decent amount of research on the G 80's... i want to buy one form my 2007 colorado 2WD... i'm curious if anyone has any personal experience with these and if i should buy? depending on who you talk to some people love there G 80's other don't and suggest the tru trac LSD... some say with the 1/2 ton chevy's that G 80's are "time bombs" and they will blow up by playing around in your truck for example burn outs doughnuts and such.. implying they are not built strong enough and when they "lock" there can be "jerking, loud bangs, loud clicks. from the research i have done it has been implied that the newer G 80's are different then the old ones so are the previously stated possible problems from the old G 80's.. other then the possible negative aspects of the G 80's i am impressed with you tube videos and such i can get on off line for about 500-600 dollars and can anyone tell me how difficult it is to swap out a differential sense the G 80 is an option for the 2 wd colorado's do i need anything other then just the G 80's or will it be a simple swap out any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

a rear locker is awesome, a few things to be aware of though is 4wd is still much better when you have low traction on all 4 tires or trying to go threw soft surfaces because then the front end is pulling you as well. now the ultimate is 4wd with a locker, one thing to be aware of with a locker in snow the back end tends to slide sideways more than with a open diff.

even with a standard open differential if both tires have equal or similar traction they will both spin but may not both be spinning at the same speed. you can find out what you have with the biuld codes in your glove box or alot of times theirs a axle tag code stamped on a little piece of metal on your rear diff that you can decode as well. also if you jack your back tires off the ground spin one tire if both tires spin in opposite directions you have a open diff if they spin the same you most likely have a lsd.
