Looking for advice on a modified '92 Z-71
I'm looking at a 1992 extended cab Z-71. Its been modified quite a bit, I'll quote what the seller is putting out.
"ITS POWERED BY A 1992 TUNED PORT INJECTED VETTE 406 CUBIC INCH MOTOR, WORLD SPORTSMEN HEADS POTED POLISHED MSD WIRES AND IGNITION BOX, HOWELL ELECTRONICS HARNESS AND COMPUTER. THE TRANSMISSION IS A GUTHRIE BULIT 700 R4 WITH RACE CLUTCHES AND A HIGH STALL CONVERTER. 5.13 GEARS FRONT AND REAR WITH LOCKERS. ITS ON NEW BFG 33 INCH TIRES WITH 8 INCHES OF PRO COMP LIFT. LOKAR SHIFTER AND PRERUNNER FRONT BUMMPER TOO."
I'm curious what this kind of work can do to a vehicle and if it is worthwile to buy into something that has seen this much work. The body of the truck is in great shape and it seems mechanically sound. On a side note, what kind of fuel consumption can one expect from a set-up like this with 406 ci vette engine?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Well unless you are looking to only use it off road I would stay way away. That amount of work if done right can be really nice but only done right and in the right application. I dont know how much you know about gearing but 5.13's were not made for something to be driven on the road. Your top speed vette motor or not will only be about 45mph and thats at 6000 rpm and you mpg's will never see double digits. If you are looking for a bogger (too big for trails or rock crawling) then, yeah, go for it! But if you are hoping to drive this, forget about it.
Sorry to be such a downer but I will not blow smoke up your butt.

With 8 inches of lift you shoud be able to put more than 33's under it. That would negate a little of the 5.13 rear ratio - As it is you should be in the high 4.?? range because that truck probably came with the equivalent of 30's or 31's. As far as the truck is concerned it just depends if it is done right. I would definitely have someone check it out that is reputable. If it isn't done right you could be hating yourself real quick. Keep in mind every time you go to do any kind maintenance you will almost never be able to just order a part for a 92 truck. I would guess the mileage would be around 10, but that is definitely a guess.
