Loud Fan
Has anyone noticed since it has warmed up the mechanical cooling fan being louder. On my 1995 2500 454 truck the fan is freaking loud! Has anyone installed electric fans on a 454 TBI truck? It sounds like it is holding the motor back even. The clutch looks new. I know the guy I just bought this truck from put a new radiator and water pump, but I am not sure about the clutch. It looks like it though! Thanks!

Shamrock on my set up I went to the junkyard and got the e-fans from an 05 for $125. Its a dual set up 15" fans. Lets just say while they are on, I can throw a rag in front of the grille and it will suck it up against it. I had to buy a bigger radiator cuz they need 34" wide and 17" tall, couple of relays with a switch, and I stay at 175 with cold air in the cab. If those are too big then the LS1 fans might work.

How loud are they? I hate the way this mechanical fan sounds. My dad was riding with me today and asked if that was my transmission making noise. I would think my big block could use those 2 bigger fans. I will say that this mechanical fan does a great job in the cooling department, but damn. With that much air being moved it's got to be robbing a few ponies.

You can hear them from outside but not from the inside with windows rolled up. I guarantee its not winding noise like the mechanical. Cuz I know what your talking bout. The fans I got go on the 6.0's. Im actually gonna get a switch that has a speed regulator cuz the fans dont need to be full speed all the time, even in this 100 degree heat.

Just an update on this. I looked around for some electric fans and found a couple sets but the salvage yards around here try and get about $10 less than they are brand new and I just couldn't swallow spending that. So I have been just dealing with the noise and trying not to worry about it. Well this morning I had to pick up a few bikes and was hauling the trailer and I swear the fan clutch was engaged 90% of the ride. I finally went to my local O'reilly's where they have some knowledgeable employee's (imagine that) I told them what I was experiencing and they swore I had a defective unit and told me if a new one did not fix it bring it back. So I bought a new one and WOW I have a new truck!!!! I swear it actually feels like a big block now. I must have gained 30 HP and it is so much quieter. I can hear it engage every once in a while for a short time but no where near the old one. With the old one my temperature would never get over 165 degrees (with a scan tool to make sure my gauge is right - which it is) so I am sure come winter I would have had a hard time getting the cab warm. Now it gets up to 195 and then drops down into the 180's when I hear the clutch engage. Also as a bonus with the old clutch my A/C compressor was cycling A LOT to the point where I swore I had a leak. With the new clutch it cycles like it is supposed to and the A/C feels like it works better - and it is a hot **** today. So this was definitely a WIN WIN WIN - the best $60 I have ever spent on a truck!!!!!

No, it was a made in China Torq Flow unit that looked new (that's why I had my doubts about it being bad). It had to just be defective. I guess it happens - glad I caught it, hopefully my gas mileage will increase too!
