RE: Lowering Kit (2007 Silverado)
im about to lower my truck when i take the bed off to paint. i was thinking about just moving the spring to the bottom of the axle and putting new u-bolts on. if its simple, why waste the money. or is it better to get a kit?

i read somewhere a while back (it may have been on here) that somebody did with the spring what you were talking about and they said it worked out fine... i wouldn't want to try it though, they put it on a certain side of the axle for a reason

Not really all that bad, people do it all the time. Im sure it could cause problems with the drivetrain if it isnt done right but I wouldn't worry that much. A co worker of mine has a 2000 2wd and that is what he did with the springs. Ride is bouncy but it works.

yea ive looked at it. my dad has done it before, and a friend of mine did it to his toyota. the only thing is, is that it comes out to be about a 5 inch drop. i was thinking only 3 or 4 in the rear. drop spindles are the only RIGHT way to do the front end, right?

From a safety and simplicity standpoint, I would say yes... Cutting coils changes their rating, leaves a nasty edge to deal with, and messes up your frontend geometry.
You could get re-arched springs for the rear and make it less of a drop....
With 5 inches drop out back, you'll need probably at least 3" drop up front to keep it level, andI would think they sell the D.S. in a 3"...
