Default Need Opinions Fast (Trade)

Hi,

I placed my truck up for sale or trade and met with someone who wants to trade her 2002 Explorer XLT for my 1999 Silverado. We're scheduled for our 2nd meet, and possibly the decision making one, today afternoon. Here are some pointers:

Ford: 111.000 Miles, Leather, Power Everything, New tires, 3rd Seat, Smoky Blue, Clean Overall, 2wd.
Chevy: 126.000 Miles, Remote start/Alarm, Amp, Deck, and Sound (Optional, may take out b4 trade) 4x4, Needs Tires (lol Burnouts) Regular Truck (Manual Everything) Metallic Pewter Color.

Also, a 2004 Endeavor owner wants it as well. But no word on him yet cause his is FWD.

All three trucks in perfect condition to drive. Do you think any of the two (Ford, and Mitsubishi) Are worth trading for my truck? Or should I keep it.

Thanks for your replies.

PS- If this posted in wrong place, forgive me. I'm new. :P

The explorer is a good SUV...it has lower miles but just like every vehicle they have their problems...IMO its up to you ...Im sure there are things about all of them you like and dislike just figure out which one has the least amount of cons........good luck and I hope you are happy with your decision

Sounds like you're looking for something with more seating than the truck - if that's the case, I'd say either one is a good trade. Check out either SUV model for typical problems on consumer reporting websites tho. As Chevy owners, we all kinda get used to particular issues and learn to deal with them or fix them. Same with Ford and Mitsu, I'm sure. Good luck on your decision!

IMHO, as i have been down that road, i have had SUV's and Pickups, as my current ride is an '03 Silverado. I have had Jeep Cherokees & Grand Cherokees, but never owned a Ford Explorer. My friends dad has one now and has had his share of problems with it. My Jeeps, i had my share of problems as have i with my Silverado. Its all about what you are looking for in a vehicle. I went from a small S15 pickup, to a fullsize truck, back to a SUV, back to a Dodge truck, to my Silverado. Basically, i am a truck kinda guy. They all have pros & cons, and there are things about my Silverado i'm not fond of, like the Tranny/driveline clunking noise which Chevy knows is a problem, and my wife has an '02 Avalanche with the same tranny/driveline, and hers does not do it. But, i have learned to live with it and somewhat changed my driving style. Next time, i 'll know better what to look for when buying my next Silverado. I have the 4.8L in it, which is nice, but i had wanted the 5.3L with the actual 4 doors, but am happy with my choice. It actually amazes me, how well it does in snow, due to the longer wheelbase. Its all about preferences. Good luck, Jim

Well,

It's true I am looking for more space as I'm now a daddy. but I also occupy my Truck for a variety of things. Yet, I feel in current market, I'd be off better with a newer model. I still like the the truck, yet I feel it is time for a change/upgrade. In honesty, I am looking towards the Mitsubishi, but I hear little about them and the fact that it's FWD does not convince me a lot. All vehicles have their issues and what not, it depends on how good you take care of them. I am a GMC guy, probably always will be. If I do this trade, I'm sure somewhere down the line, I'll pick up Chevy again.

Thanks for your replies.

I rode in the back of a Ford Explorer. and honestly, I HATED IT. I have never felt a seat more uncomfortable besides the backseat of my buddys Dodge Dakota extended cab with a bench seat...

In todays market you could almost certainly go with something newer. The Fords do perform well in the snow, I knwo absolutely nothing about the Mitsbitchy but I'm not a fan.

I would think that you could find a newer Crew cab truck for a decent price in todays market..

I would look for a crew cab Chevy/ GMC or go with the Ford Explorer. I do lean towards the Crewcab. You never know how much you use the bed of a truck for tools, dirt, ect... until you loose it and need it. And a truck has more options for upgrades: performance parts... a Ford Explorer is limited; trust me I have been searching for my wifes old Explorer...

Honestly, ditch the explorer idea..... my wife has "blessed" me with 2 of them.... both where a pain a in @ss to work on and both blew the tranny at 119,000 miles....

Do a search for a explorer forum.. there's one.... i used to browse there for ideas on how to fix ours... Check out the thread names.... just about every other one starts with " need help with tranny" or " Why won't my truck go in gear"...lol

When my first was born 6 years ago i upgraded from an S-10 to a 2500 ext cab Silverado which i still have to this day.... both kids fit nice in the back seat.. so, with that said my advise would be to find and ext cab or a crew cab truck...
