Yea i took the tbs back off and the truck runs like a champ now. What would i use to clean the MAF? I'll do the battery opinion as well...after i do that should i put the tbs back on and upload my stock tune and see what happens?....just an idea i had lol

Why not, your stock tune won't damage anything.

 

You can use carb cleaner on the sensor as well. Then I would put put stock tune back in, and do a test run. Next add TBS, reset computer and do a test run. Depending on those results, then I would try adding the tune back in and doing a test run. Try to get some real numbers to compare like 0-60, 45-65, fuel milage, etc. Whatever you can get to get numbers to compare instead of feel.

 

They make MAF sensor cleaner thats safe for all sensors. When you take the tune off its going to feel like its running lean but I have noticed that I am getting better gas mileage than I was when it was 100% stock.

 

Your getting better mileage than stock but not better than with the Hypertech?

 

Technically yes, because I've been running a 87 tune with 87 octane in the tank and she dogs a little. Hypertech said it was because of the CIA, TBS and MAF mod (together, just one or two would be ok). Too much air will lean out the mixture and the programmer can't adjust the settings enough for this and it causes the timing to retard causing a power loss. If you run 89 its fine and gets about the same mileage as I do now without it ( but without it obviously theres less power, but the same mileage). Same with the 91 tune, I need 93 to make it run well. Correction: According to the Hypertech guys theory I would need 93 for 91 tune but I never tried it, just the 87 tune with 89.

 

Recap - with my mods.....Hypertech at 87....I should run 89 for optimum effect.......did I get that right?

 

Yes. Try it out. When you run the tank empty, fill it with a quarter to a half tank of 89 and mash the gas a couple of times. If you notice a positive difference than the 87 might not have been enough. My truck would knock once right off of idle (only for a second) when hitting the gas hard and changing to 89 stopped it.
