Hey guys i'm new to the truck forum and i got a few questions. i have 2006 Silverado 5.3L 2wd crew cab that i'm looking to raise a total of 5" with CST...i need some advice as to what kits, tires, wheels, gears and all that good stuff...any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Mods Yet to Do:

5" Lift CST
33" tires Nitto Terra Grappler or BFG A/T
17" wheels (pro comp xtreme alloys series 7105) (rubbing???)
Bielstein Shocks
Exhaust (would like dual)
CAI (k@n?)
Chip/Tuner
Gears (4:10?)

My advice is to put a long arm kit on it and make it a pre runner or desert runner style of truck.

With 5" of lift you shouldn't have any rubbing with only having 33" tires.

With the exhaust, go with a single in dual out muffler, Flomaster makes really good mufflers.

Go with a K&N CAI. OR Volant OR Any other one that you like. They all do the same thing, just look and sound a little different.

Get a reprogrammed computer, you will get better gains and it will be vehicle specific. Nelson is really popular.

Everything else seems fine. But it all depends on what you want to build.

 

Make sure the wheels have the right backspacing to fit 33"s. I wanna say you will need 4.5" backspacing but dont quote me on that.

I dont think you need to go to 4.10 gears. It would be nice if you have 3.42 gears now and you would definately feel it but if you have 3.73 gears and 33"s quite honestly you probably wouldnt even feel a difference.

I am personally a big fan of BFG AT's because thats what I have now. They wear great and are not loud or anything. Very good off road too.

Can not go wrong with blistiens.

Looks like it is just about covered. What makes you want to do this to a 2wd truck though?

 

I know i know...i'm trading my dad the car i have now for thw 2wd truck...he has it on 20's with low profile tires and i kinda want a little bit more aggressive look...i'm in CA so there is really no reason for 4x4, however i would love one...i just want to make the truck look a little more beefy even if its a 2wd...believe me i would be the first one to say 2wd lifted trucks is stupid lol...thanks for all the advice!

New the whole lift thing what is a long arm kit? And what does it do? Would it make the truck look like a Baja truck? Raked in the front?

 

No, it will allow more susp travel. They tend to run in the rear, but you can get them for front spindles in 2WD versions as well. You can get all the way up to 24" travel in the front and 36" in the back with on of these type of set-ups.

ALFONSO318- It's ok to have a 2WD truck. I drove one off road all through my High School days. The thing to do though is put a locker in the rear diff if you are going to go off road. It will make the difference! I promise it is like night and day for traction. Other than that, if you are going to mostly stay on road, just put some good looking wheels and rubber on it, keep at stock height for handleing and spend your money on accesories like the sterio.

AS far as Cali is concerned, I wheel off road all the time in Cali. I live here too. Most people think of the citys. But that is only part of it. NY is not just NYC there is country there too. Same with Cali.

 

^^^ thanks for the advice...i know i'm not a big fan of 2wd on a truck but it was an effective money saving decision...i think i'm still gonna lift it a little cause i'll probably keep the truck for forever cause its only got 30xxx miles on it...i just want a little lift nothing too crazy...i just like the clearance and the look of a aggressive wheels/tires...thanks for the advice though
