Hello everybody. I am new to this forum. I recently acquired a 2003 Chevy 1500 HD. I have a couple of questions. First, when playing a CD the stereo will just randomlyswitch to the tuner. I assume this is more of a dealer issue, but I'm hoping for any input. Second, I am interested in an aftermarket exhaust. Now, I am 46 yrs old and not looking for a LOUD system. I don't mind a little growl, but don't want something that roars, especially on the highway. suggestions? Thanks

 

Yes,it will take a new radio to fix that...is it in warranty?/

 

Not sure at this point. There is a powertrain warranty, but I'm not sure about the stereo. If no warranty, I may consider aftermarket depending on cost. I do however like the convenience of the steering wheel controls. Thanks for your help, Argon.

 

there are a lot of after market stereos that will incorparate the steering whell controls too. they are reasonably priced too.

 

I wouldn't have guessed an aftermarket stereo could use the wheel controls.!. I am about 2 hrs from the nearest stereo shop. I will have to check into this if I'm near them with time to stop in. I would really like to have a jack for my I-pod. Again thanks for the help.

 

Alot of the new radios have the ipod jack. As far as exhaust, flowmaster makes a 60 and 70 series that are not very loud and still have good sound and flow. The 40 series I have is not loud in the truck at all except under heavy throttle.

 

So I called the nearest stereo shop. They said a new radio and adapters, etc to tie into the steering wheel controls, OnStar would probably be about $400. Now I realize that depends on the particular radio and we were just talking on the phone. I just wanted to get some idea of what I might be looking at. They said they had a guy they could send it to for repair for maybe around $175-$200.

I called a dealer nearby that told me a new factory radio would be around $275. I just thought I would throw this back on the board for the sake of conversation.

I did MrLm7's redneck ram air and de-screen MAF. I'll see what happens there. I am no engineer and a wicked nooby, but what good does the heated throttle body do? I mean why did the factory build them that way. In cold weather your coolant is cold on start also. I can't really understand how it helps cold start. I'm thinking of seeing if I can come up with a valve system to bypass in the summer and restore it in the winter. Probably easier to just unhook,bypass and then re connect. We'll see how motivated I get.

really smoke? you have headers or manifolds and what size pipe? cause i have 2 40s on mine and its so loud as soon as i give it a tiny bit of gas.

 

spaz - I have headers, and 2.5 innnch pipes. The difference is in the 5.7 vs 5.3 engine as well as the insulation. From what I am told it is loud outside the truck, but not loud inside at all except from 2-3K rpm under heavy throttle.
