New stereo install
I just bought a new stereo and i'm installing it my self. It is the alpine 9886. Everything is going fine but I have one question about the wires. on the old stero there are two plugs going into the back. and on the new stereo there is only room for one. what is the other connector for and do i need it?

RE: New stereo install
I briefly had an alpine head unit in my truck. I ordered it from Crutchfield, but didn't like the way it looked in the truck so I returned it. I got the wiring harness/install kit from them too. The harness gets wired to the wires from the back of the head unit, andif I remember correctly the wiring harness had spaces in it for both plugs.... So, I would say yes you need both plugs.

What truck? Model and year would help.
My 98 came with an add on CD deck. I had two plugs as well and the second one went to the CD deck, so I wen't to a newer stereo from a newer chevy and I just made a cubby whole where the old deck was.

Yeah, these guys are correct - do yourself a favor and buy the correct wiring harness adapter for your model truck. It's got a plug on one end that matches up to your stock harness, and bare wires on the other end. Splice the bare ends to the correct wires on the new Alpine and you're in business. Typically, you can't just plug the factory plug directly into the Alpine HU. And DON'T CUT OFF THE FACTORY PLUG!!! You'll be splicing every time you need to remove or change the stereo. Can't really go wrong if you buy the adapter.
