New/used 2005 Silverado questions
Just purchased a new/used 2005 2WD crew cab. This is my first Chevy truck. I Just have a few questions.
I got under the truck this weekend and noticed that there is a bar (bracket) attatched from the drivers side frame to the engine support crossover (sorry not technical).
It looks like there should be another one of the same from the passenger frame to the support. There is not. Is this a critical issue ? Is this correct ? What is this bracket called (part number) so that I can get a replacement.
I also have an issue with a bad exhaust rattlethat appears under load while drivingwhichgradually goes away as things heat up. It appears to be coming from the muffler area. Any ideas on this ?
I have a third issue with the clunking in the steering column which I have identified using the posts from this forum.
Thanks

YEAH..2 BARS UNDER THERE....13MM BOLTS HOLD EM ON..not super-critical,but i'd get 1...its a skinny bar about 3 feet long,right?
the exhaust...its pretty much inpossibler for me to say not hearing it...if its a tinny rattle, look for the muffler...if its a rock-in-a-coffee-can sound, look for the cat/cats to be shelled inside....they have an 8/80 warranty on em
the shaft...make SURE you get that part # that i posted...let me know if you can't find it,but it ends in 14...16193514,or something like that.its a new design and STOPS the problem...we sell em for 70 bucks..they list for 90.....we get 60 bucks to put em on...if you have tools and basic knowledge, you can put it on.

RE: New/used 2005 Silverado questions
The bar is 2 ft. 27 inches long. Pretty close to 3ft. for goverment work. Do you know what it is called and the number ?
Thanks for your response....
As far as the steering shaft I went out there after work and did what was recommened to temporarily fix the problem. I loosened and removed the 15 MM bolt and moved the shaft up and down for 20-24 times and replaced the bolt. I will check on this tomorrow morning to see it this worked.
As far as the rattle, It varies with the rpms of the motor when cold and appears to be coming from the muffler.
I guess this item will be a work in progress.
Thanks again for the help....

Get up under it and literally punch the pipes. Try to see where its coming from. I think mine might be these little washer things used on the O2 sensors. But I have no idea for sure. Its frustrating as hell to pin point thats all I know.
