Default No radio reception in 1992 Sierra

Hey everybody, im looking for a little help. I have a 1992 Sierra and just the other day my radio reception went completley out. When I turn the radio on I get reception for about 2 seconds and then it completely goes and I can't get reception at all on am & fm. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you still have the original radio?

Yes it's the original radio.

It is probably either the head unit or the amp. My old truck used to do the same thing and I ended up going aftermarket (as much as I didn't want to). Mine would get reception and sound fine, then it would start making a squelching noise before going out completely.

I don't know if there is an amp or not. It's just a radio with no tape player, or do they all come with amps?

They all do - it is under the dash about where your right knee is. It is silver with the cooling fins on it.

Do I have to remove the whole dash or just the radio to access it?

Neither - just look under there and you will see it. There are a couple screws holding it in place.
