Default o2 Sensor... is it possible???

... To only have one o2 sensor on my truck?

1992 C1500 305 5.0L V8 2x4

I ran my hands along the entirety of the exhaust and manifolds and only found one on the driver side... is it possible the previous owner would have replaced a manifold or exhaust piece and eliminate one of the sensors?

ps: that sensor is really tough to remove if it's been on for 10 years.

pps: a really cool video I found, looking at issues by eyeballing the sensor (and bench testing)

Thanks guys

I would think it should have one on each downtube. If someone replaced the pass side manigold, it's possible the one they used didn't have the mount or they didn't knock out the bung.

A life saver:

My 1989 Chevy scottsdale 5.0L 305 engine only has one single O2 sensor as well. He could have replaced the manifolds, but chances are, you've only got one O2 sensor. Count yourself lucky.

Also, drive the truck around till it's at operating temperature, jack it up and take it out while the exhaust is hot. It'll come out easier. Careful not to burn yourself, and try uisng one of these to get better leverage: http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-3...p-00944815000P

@NullHead Yep... used that socket with a 3' breaker bar! Went slow though, so scared of breaking the sensor INSIDE the engine!

did that to a spark plug on a Ford Escort... had to helicoil it and basically rebuilt the head while I was at it (enter swear words at fords with aluminum engines here)

I've been going to the same sales rep, so he's been taking almost 1/2 off on my parts. Cheaper than Wal-Mart parts, but the good parts. I was fortunate that way.

I had to use the o2 socket AND a 3' breaker bar. Took my sweet time though, so scared of breaking the sensor and having the innards still stuck in the engine.

b'ah! I've admitted defeat. Gotta drive the girlfriend's parents' minivan on our roadtrip now!

Compression test and possibly a head gasket change when I get back!

Thanks a lot you guys! You've helped me insane amounts and I really appreciate it. I'll have a dumb question or two when I take the engine apart in a few weeks for sure
