Paint Fade?

It's a clearcoat issue that painters like myself have been dealing with forever, especially in regards to factory applied finishes. Back in the late 80's up through early 90's both GM and Ford had recalls involving their single stage paints because of an application timing issue with the primer. This current issue is similar in the fact that the clearcoat is lifting from the basecoat and that milky look you see is air between the layers.
I'm not trying to sound like a know it all but I've been in the auto restoration business for going on 25 years. I've painted everything from showcars to Indy cars and have become pretty familiar with paint issues. The big reason in your case was UV protection, when that clear mixed, it didn't mix enough or timing was off causing adhesion issues. In time, that paint will start peeling.

I think part of my post might have come across as krass,,,, oops lol. My big concern was that I hate to see people throw money at all these miracle products out there. You can temporarily cover it up but please realize that you can't stop the inevitable in regards to a factory paint failure issue.

No kidding. If it's Maaco, make sure they actually prep the vehicle. Also, they aren't going to remove trim moldings, lights and such. Personally, save the money and hold out until you can have it professionally done.

My 1990 suburban has always been parked in the garage, yet still developed a fading issue on the up surfaces. Took it to a reputable body shop near the house (in the Los Angeles area), and had the "Up" surfaces painted a couple years ago. Cost about $1,300, but once again the vehicle looks showroom new.
Many may be thinking "What a fool to spend that much on a car that's over 20 years old". I've maintained it like it is right off the showroom. It's my hobby.

Good to hear that you had it done properly. It's odd sometimes that people don't realize what a quality paint job will cost. I've done work that ran the customer several thousands of dollars but once the job was finished, they realized the final product was worth it.
