Painted Interior??
I posted this in the sierra forum as well but wanted to get the best response and since the truck are basically the same here it goes.
I am about to purchase a 95 sierra k2500 ext cab. The truck has the dark blue interior and I am looking to paint all of the interior. I don't want it to match the paint outside. I am painting the exterior white and the interior I was thinking of going with a black dye. will this turn out ok? The seats will be camo eventually. Any suggestions or tips?

We used to have an upholstery shop at my dad's carlot that I worked at after college for quite a few years. We did numerous interior color changes and it is definitely able to be done, but it is very time consuming and it is 90% prep work 10% paint work. All your panels must be super clean! You must then use some sort of prep solvent and an adhesion promoter. I personally was driving a 5.0 mustang back then that had that awful red interior. I stripped it all out and changed it to black. It came out great and still looked good when I sold it 2 years later. Now we redid the seats in new black upholstery and I covered the center console top in new vinyl. The hardest thing to do are the seat belts. They can be painted, but need to be stretched all the way out and allowed to dry for a full day. They will be a little more stiff once dried, but it didn't really bother me. Take your time and I am sure it will come out great!

Would it be easier to replace the seat belts?.
I think for the carpet i a going to replace with black vinyl, that is what is in my ram and i love it. Also what products are the best and for comparison sake how much would something like that cost if i took it to a shop. Would i be better off trying to find the tan dash and all and doin a swap/buy at a junkyard. I am fine with that I like the tan

A can of paint and some solvents are way cheaper than a new dash. Plus you can paint your dash while it is still in the truck so that is a HUGE labor saver. Just do some thorough masking and remove all the loose parts (bezels, vents, electronics, etc). It will be hard to find black seat belts, but if you go tan they are all over the place. I wouldn't let that be a determining factor of what color to go though. If your going through all that trouble go with the color you like the best. As far as which products to use - like I said we only used SEM products, but I am going back quite a few years so I am not really sure what is out there now.

For plastic parts you need to use paint. It is possible to dye plastic - I am into RC Cars and dye wheels and body parts all the time, but you have to get the entire part into very hot water with the dye added. I don't think it would be very feasible with large truck parts. You could get some camo material and wrap everything. That would be cool. Then you don't have to worry about the paint chipping.
