Default Pcm ?

I am working on a 96 Chevy 1500 2wd 4.3l vin W. Was told that the vehicle had been cutting off and asked if there was a ses light on and there was not. Initially I assumed it was probably a crank position sensor after our discussion, but when i plugged in my diagnostics machine i was unable to access the PCM. This coupled with the lack of a check engine light has led me to believe that the PCM may be bad. I checked power to the PCM Orange #21 in connection harness, plenty of power. Is there a way that anyone knows that I may be able to check the integrity of the PCM without trying another one? Any thoughts at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think there's any way to test it other than to swap to a different PCM. If your scanner can't access it, look for the PCM fuse and make sure the ground is good.

No problem. Ground should be pin 19 black.

The power for the OBD plug runs off the cig lighters. Check those ports if they are working, if not then its either shorted or fuse is popped.
