a question for the guru's
can anybody tell me for certain what the differences are between a 1999-2000 6.0L engine and the later years say 2003?? I know the later ones have more power, but I am starting to look for an engine for my 2000 2500HD and it seems to me that the later engines did not have the piston slap issues as bad as the earlier engines. can i put a 2003 or so engine into my 2000 if i use all my original sensors and such??I can find a sweet deal an a 2003 6.0L and like I said I will need to replace my angry piston slapper soon (makes noise now even when fully warmed up) Thanks guys!!

RE: a question for the guru's
There are two Gen III 6.0l's.
- The LQ4 was the original, making around 330hp (varies). It has dished pistons.
- The LQ9 came out later, making around 340hp (varies). It has flat-top pistons.
Any year 6.0l will serve you well and work in your truck. The hp and tq difference is minimal.
