Default a reason to not leave a set of jumper cables

at work today i was cleaining up the shop as i had nothing else to do anyway one of our crew supers drives into the shop he has a chevy c5500 truck which has the battery box on the pass side under the cab
well he has to constantly jump start vehicals so he left the jumper cables still hooked to the battery he turned a corner jsut before our shop and hit a bump well the jumper cables touched and he lost all his gauges and lights also when he got to the garage door his truck was on fire
luckily i seen that and grabed the fire extinguisher and put it out as fast as i could as he had no clue of what happend while talking on his cell phone after he seen the fire extinguisher he got out asap

moral of the story dont leave jumper cables hooked to a battery it can and will catch fire or fry your entire electrical system

luckily he did not he just shorted out the jumpers and cuaght them on fire
after cutting the actuall battery cables to make new ones every thing worked 100%

so dont leave them hooked to a battery
unless you have the kind that you put on the terminal bolts and they are the plug in type male or female end with a rubber coating around them to prevent stuff from happening

Yeah ... batteries contain huge amounts of energy, and jumper cables are perfect for unleashing that energy, if it's by jump starting a car, or shorting and catching on fire.

I'm glad his truck's fine thougn ... that's a BIG truck.

:') He's never going to live that one down

... that's as dumb as a year ago when I put headbolts on an Escort without using a torque wrench, but a different kind of dumb.
