Default break it down

i cant explain how Royal Purple kicks *** as we all know it does but i can explain how synthetics are much better and stronger for an engine... BUT to do this we have to get down to the molecular level. Synthetics and Conventional. For ease of typing I will refer to Mobil and Castrol instead. Both mobil and castrol come from the same source. Carbon deposits in the earth. Now the oil is not pure carbon and the carbon is what lubes the engine. the perfect carbon molecule is 6molecules long. The more of these perfect strands the more lube and protection there is. Carbon is strongest in this form. Our conventional oil has these 6 molecule strands mixed in with other misc atoms and versions of the carbon, hence we get different viscosities and durabilities of the oil. 5w20, 5w30, 10w30, 15w40 etc.. Now, Mobil, synthetics.... This mix is only made of the pure 6molecule strings of carbon hence it protects alot better and lasts alot longer. Longer to brake down pure carbon lube. Now what about those viscosities? Have you ever noticed with mobil all the different weights feel the same? They are. I can run 0w20 in my chevy as easy as I can run the 10w40 and it should protect the same. The viscosities are taylored to operating temperatures. A toyota here runs 5w30 while the same toyota operating on the expiditions in the artic circle operates on 0w20. The lubricating power of the mobil is far beyond that of conventional oil but the price is what holds most people back. I dont know what the royal purple people did but they far surpassed mobil. I ran it in my motorcycle from day one and believe it or not im at 3000 miles and it still has not broken in all the way. I think I explained correctly. You can check out how stuff works.com and even the mobil1 web site. I got my info from mobil fluid training about 2 years ago but I may have forgotten some key points. Follow up..

Not to sure, but they did dyno an engine with royal purple in it on Spike TV and it added something like 7 or 8 more hp.

Yeah I haven't used Royal Purple's engine oil yet but I have used it in both differentials and transmissions in 2 of my past cars and currently in my Supra. I didn't really notice any performance gains so to speak of but I'll tell you this and I lie not, it fixes a lot of problems! My tranny in both the 240sx I had and my Supra were both grinding a bit going into gear... almost sounded like the clutch wasn't enguaging all the way and thus grinding my gears when I shifted fast(racing). I put Royal Purple gear oil in both and it cured the grinding. I also put it in the rear ends of my 240sx, my 95 Z28, and my Supra and it seems to fix the shuddering you get when limited slips start crapping out.

I haven't gotten around to their engine oil cause I've heard of people having issues with it in the past but it may have been purely concidental and/or could be related to extra hard flogging of the motor in an attempt to see the effects of the uber expensive oil. I will be trying it in my Supra once I get the engine fixed up good.

Well if that's the case don't forget to try their taillight fluid! I here it brightens your taillights tremendously compared to the oem fluid!

Conventional oil has compounds called polymers added to it that prevent the oil from breaking down and burning up with engine temperatures and pressure. This also helps turn crude into a better, slicker lube that helps reduce friction and wear. (Early days of gas engines, like the first model A Ford, the engines would need rebuilt quite often as the conventional oil was merely refined crude that would burn up and break down quickly). Other ingredients include detergents that prevent carbon and sludge buildup. The majority of synthetic oil consists ofstraight polymers, with almost as much detergent contents as conventional (maybe not quite as much as less is needed since synthetic holds up better to burning and wear). Other ingredients are other man-made compounds that prevent the oil from drying out gaskets and so on as polymers alone do not have the ability to protect gasket materials from drying out with the extreme heat (crude does).

The different brands of sythetic oil are just different combinations of synthetic compounds, detergents and polymers. Royal Purple may have more polymers then lets say Mobil 1 (hypothetical I don't actually know for sure), but after a certain degree it may become excessive. Example: a racing engine will need all the help it can get, but the daily driver will not need quite as much as you won't be pushing the limits of the engine as much as the racing engine.
