Default Service 4WD

Hello,
I keep getting this warning on my dash after starting. I was told to replace my transfer case selector swithch. After paying over a hundred dollars, I still get the say reading. What would be the next thing to replace or do?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom it's a commonly encountered problem on our GM trucks. The older trucks had a problem with cold solder joints on the switch. However that has not been an issue with the newer trucks but folks will still tend to replace the switch first since it's easy and cheaper than the dealership. It is probably the Transfer Case Encoder Motor Sensor, I have had the same issue as you and I did a pretty lengthy write up on my site. Give it a look and it should help you get your issue fixed.

Good Luck, Jarrod

I currently have the same problem but the light only flickers for a second on start up. I have changed the push button 4wd and the actuator. The main problem is when i engage 4HI i have to shut the truck off put it in Neutral and push 2HI and fire it back up then its in 2HI. When i have it in 4wd the service light is always on service 4wd. I have just gave up because i have no clue what to do and the dealerships are wayyyyyyyyyy to expensive anymore.

I wish it was just the dash switch, but after I replaced it, I knew the fix wasn't going to be cheap. I got my truck back today from the shop. It was the encoder motor that was bad. They replaced it and problem solved. Luckly I got a bonus at work, which helped with $535 repair bill.

Thanks,
Tom
