Yeah, they both have their pros and cons. I was so use to my 91 that I could tell what was wrong just by how she was acting. Same with my 77' Ford. My 99' runs great and I haven't had any problems. But when I do it sounds like its going to be fun. Anyone want to play enie, meaine, miny, mo, with sensors, lol.

Oh I ment to ask you Argon, the code readers in the programmers are most likely tech 1 huh? I mean they talk to the PCM but they might not be able to read in depth trouble codes like a tech 2 Im thinking.

well..

there are different scanners and such..

9just talking trucks here)

gm began in 88 ..obd1...an old
"tech 1" scanner would read data and codes.

by about 92,we had "bi-directional" scanners...they would not just read stuff, but could command things as well..like shift the trans when you tell it to.

in 96,ob2 hit and the "tech 2" scanner...it did the above, plus could be used to hook to the web abnd download updates into the truck.

by 99,the trucks had many more modules, not just an ecm.

by 03,a trucks has up to 20 modules!..ecm,radio,cluster,dvd,seats,doors...all modules that set codes and can be updated....only a tech2 has the capabilities to read all those other modules.such as a 4wd lite coming on
