Hey guys, wanted to ask if anyone has ever replaced their steering gear box with one from, say, O'Reilys or AutoZone? I have a 97' 1/2 ton 2wheel drive 1500 Silverado. Auto trans with the 5.7 V8. Im due to replace the steering gearbox soon. Iusually buy my replacementparts from the GM dealership, but they want 300 bucks or so for the steering box. O'Reilys has one for $180.00 by CarDone,but i wasnt sure if the over all quality was worth taking the chance. Has anyone used a 3rd party gearbox on a truck similar to mine? I wonder if the steering ratio is close to the same? It doesnt listthe ratiofor the Cardone. I have replaced one on a 4x4 suburban i had years ago. It was a mud toy and the steering gear box was wore out the day i bought it. The box i put on there was from Autozone and it worked but i couldnt say if it was as good as one from GM. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
