The type r's don't need a custom box. I used to work in an audio shop and that is what I have in my truck. The 12's won't fit at all but the 10's will no problem. You can get a lot of sound and a lot of really good sound from our trucks. Here is some pics of my install

The boxes we carried were r/t boxes. I made shimms so the woofers would have more clearance because they are a pretty good size woofer. I didn't mount mine on the back wall because I always seem to be changing something or treaking this or that. If you mount them on the back wall your gonna have screw holes and I worry about any holes in my cabin and once their there thats it unless you take the seat out. When we installed big stereoes we did mount them on the back wall. I'm also not too thrilled about it becuase if you have an amp go bad your pulling the seat out again too

cool so you think i could get the one on say ebay or something made for our trucks , and just shim it, and it should work?? if so then i'll probably do that.

I would definently give it a look. Personally you'd be a lot happier with two woofers than one but thats my opinion. You still running a factory deck or an aftermarket? If you've gone to aftermarket I would replace the door spks and amp them. Then your really gonna have some great sound!

Ok right on. Even if you amp the factory spks you'll hear a huge sound difference or if you just switch out to some $100 alpine type s 6.5's you'll hear a huge difference. I did post in the gmc forum of a easy way to run your power wire through the fire wall so check that out.
