suspension question
I've got a 1990 chevy silverado 1500 reg cab short box, 2wd. I'm going to build it for duning, and just wondering what would make a good suspension upgrade for the front end for when it pops over the top of the hills. I won't be jumping it, but the front will probably be off the ground when I crest the hills. Don't want to damage anything. Like I said its 2wd, so most times i'll have to do that so that I don't get stuck. Yes I did pick 2wd on purpose. simpler build, lighter, and to me the setup is just more fun with the dunes. Any advice appreciated!

RE: suspension question
I don't do that kind of wheeling, but have read alot about it. Give me a chance to do some searching. The mag Peterson 4 wheel and off road is a great sorce for this type of info. I think they have a website as well.

RE: suspension question
I don't have first hand experience here but I sure have seen a lot of fabtech suspension setups on prerunner trucks. I am assuming that you are more or less are building a prerunner type truck, like dune racer. I would definitely put some good schocks on it and make sure you get some great under protection for that bad boy skid plate etc.

RE: suspension question
Alright bro,, Im guessing your from socal or AZ? Maybe Oregon.. But anyways.. Here is a sight you must go to. http://www.camburg.com.. I got the same situation.. I need a truck that I can smash through desert and then drive home.... If you got $$$ coming out of your *** then definatly go with a LT front setup and birdcage the rear. run some deaver LT leaf springs.. and some sick shocks.. 16" travel at least... throw some sweet meats on and go hit up buttercup, gordons or if you got some serious juice under the hood go hit oldsmobile hill.. You know the drill..
I however dont have $$$ coming out of anything... So I got on craigslist and found a great deal... $1000 for NEW 305/75R16 BFG MT's on semi new (great condition) eagle alloys. I also got a 3" fabtech lift (springs and upper A arms) thrown in for nothin. Drove over to my buddies house (he's got a neverending compressor, 180 gallon) and threw it all in and on in about 7-8 hours (with his help).. Been out to ocotillo wells about a dozen times since then and I have yet to get stuck, even in the soft stuff with the 24' toybox w/ full tanks... I replaced all the shocks (front came with the lift but were old and had to re thread one and make it work) with new fabtech ones and the truck rides great. It looks a ton better too..
Now heres my problem... All these guys with money trees at their house and a ford in the driveway with who knows how much money dumped (wasted) into it who come out to glamis and get stuck.. They got a lifted 350 on huge tires and a banks power kit spinning 1 effing tire! 1 tire! Does anybody know how many fords it takes to get another ford out of the sand? Ha, trick question! its not possible... How many chevys does it take to pull a ford out of the sand? the answer is 5. 1 to pull and 4 to watch and rub it in...
Way off topic.. anyways... Cresting over dunes, you truck is going to come down hard. coming down hard isnt good.. you could dig your self in and its just not good for your truck.. Your going to need at least a 6" or 7" lift up front with minimum 2 good off road shocks each side, double hoop setup and your money(Ranchos are awesome). I wouldnt go bigger than a 33" tire just because you really dont need to. You can also get away with a little block set for the rear definatly no more than 3" or you could go add a leaf (too stiff for me) and make sure your drive shaft alignment is still acceptable. Throw the best shocks you can afford on the rear. if you can get rancho 9000's do it.. You will not regret it.. Do the work your self if you can so when it breaks you know whats goin on and how to fix it. Maybe you will be driving home instead of riding home... Stay safe and ill see you out there this winter...

RE: suspension question
Chevyduner89 definately look into and at least call Camburg to ask questions. Harderthanrocks is very right, Camburg knows their stuff.
They are not cheap but I've learned that patience and saving your $$$ pays off. Camburg helped me get my toyota pre-runner built up where i wanted it, great on the road and just as good off. If you live here in So-Cal the shop is in Huntington Beach it's a small shop with the time to talk, i'm goin back when I get the money.
What are the details on your truck???
