Hi guys I have not been on in a long time. But now I have time to read the post and I see where the sticking tailgate is a problem, but doing a search I can not find a fix for it. Any help would be great.

 

The little plastic deals inside start to wear down. They sell kits at Napa to fix it.

Is it the release latch that is sticking or after the latch releases does the tailgate stick?

 

When I pull the handle all the way up and pull with my hand , it sticks and you have to us two hands and give it a good tug.

 

Personally, I'd take some penetrating oil like PB Blaster or WD-40 or similar and spray down the latches on the sides, take the tailgate handle off and spray it down and it should all free up nicely.

My tail gate has the same issue, but that's because the hinges are shot and the tailgate sags.

 

Had the same issue on a 98 sierra, to fix it I just bent the bracket a bit where the tailgate latches

 

I had to do that also.
