I just recently purchased a 2000 Silverado 5.3 V8 about 3 days ago. When i test drove it, it didn't do this, but now, when i turn the key, its takes about 5-7 seconds to start. Even when it starts, i have to press the gas in order for it to run right. I'v waited 5-6 seconds to turn the key after i turned the key to the first notch, i'v started it right away, i'v hit the gas before i started it (had to do it to my old 86 ford). I have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me out with this issue. There is no warranty with my truckand i don't want to spend the money if i don't have to and its something simple. Anyone have an idea?

 

look at the fuel regulator on the engine...take the vacuum hose off and see if thereis gas in the hose...if there is,its faulty

 

I had the same problem twice with my '01 5.3; once it was the battery connection corroded(130k), and the other(100k) was the camshaft sensor (had a small shop replace it for $85 or so)

 

I have injector cleaner in it right now. THe connector isn't corroded, but the senser is possible. Thank you guys. Hopefully i can get this fixed.

 

I took it to the dealer i got it from since i had just bought it. Their garage hooked it up to the computer and no codes came out. The cleaner hasn't worked. How much do you guys think it would cost to take it to a GM shop? Like 50-100 or 200-etc.

 

deffinately check the camsaft sensor ive seen those go from hesitant starts to no starts. so first give that a check if you get nothing from the fuel reg check.

 

I had the same trouble with mine. I pulled the vac. hose off the fpr and there was fuel present. A trip to the dealer for a new regulatorand 5 minutes to change it and no more trouble.

 

I would take the truck back to the dealer and get it looked at, if it was a sensor then it would throw a code. Becouse there is no code present, that makes me think that it may be a fuel problem. but it shouldn't be your problem. You said that you bought the truck november 27th. that is still within 30 days. The dealer and your sales man should be more than happy to take the truck back or at least fix what is wrong with the truck. Esspecially when they make more off of used trucks than the new ones, so I have heard.

 

I did take it back about 2 weeks after buying it. They didn't know what was wrong with it. They checked the computer and nothing came on it. Their not that big of a dealer, and it came with no warrenty. When it gets daylight, il take a look at the hose.

 

It might be the fuel pump... also there might be a fuel leak somewhere.. i have a cavalier that had an injector that leaks.. when it sits it loses pressure and then when you turn the key to the on position the fuel pump has to pressurize the system again so it take a minute cus the fuel isnt getting to the system. so you might try that...
