Is there an easy way to clear a check engine light
I have an 05 Silverado and i did a throttle body cleanning. After i was done the check engine light came on. I want to clear it. Is there a way to clear it without going to a mechanic. I already disconnected both positive and negative terminals for about 30 min. Light is still on. I know nothing is wrong it was because of the cleaner i was shooting into the throttle body. I used Seafoam cleaner.

You can buy a scanner for under $100 which will erase the codes.....Probably a little more than a mechanic would charge, but they are real handy to have for future problems, which are bound to come up sooner or later
and, it would be useful to find out what code did come up

Getting the code is a good ideal to see if it's related to what you did. Otherwise you can disconnect the battery to clear the code. Some vehicles like Range Rover say to disconnect the battery and connect the pos. and neg. cables together for a minute or so.

My Chilton 1999-2006 chevy/GMC manual says you can disconnect the pos side of the battery or pull the PCM fuse. My Haynes manual for my 2004 Toyota says the same thing and details it for the OBD1 and the OBD2 systems. Personally I have only had a light on my 2004 GMC and I replaced the sensor to fix it.

I've found that normally, disconnecting the battery will erase any codes stored in the computer, current or history. What changes the fact that the light stays on, is most likely because there is a current issue going on, and the computer encounters a problem right away and sets a fault code again. I'd say it needs to be diagnosed, at least have your idle reset after you cleaned the throttlebody.
