Question Is there a Transmission Guru in the house

I just acquired an 86 long bed 4x4 Silverado with a 350 and 700r4 tranny. I got it running yesterday and had to put in a gallon of trans fluid before it would pull. I drove it around for 15 minutes or so and then it quit pulling all together. The fluid is black, and the pan has a nice layer of clutch material in the bottom. How hard is it to rebuild one of these things? Is there anything I need to be on the look out for? I've heard of sprague cages breaking, and then something about a drum that gives trouble, but I'm not a transmission man. I put clutches and a new converter in a 904 in one of my Grand Waggys one time, but I know nothing about them.

Any and ALL help is GREATLY appreciated.

invest in a rebuild book. if you have step by step instructions in front of you, its not very hard. just take your time and be careful and don't rush.

agreed........................... a rebuild book is the best idea if you want to do it your self and go ask questions at a tranny shop....most will be more than glad to give advice and common problems to look for....Ive been doing trannys for over 10 yrs and still do the things listed above
